What electrical layout makes a dual-use attic (office + guest suite) feel seamless and safe?

Zones, Circuits, and Clean Cable Paths

Map zones first—work, sleep, lounge—then assign dedicated lighting and receptacle circuits with AFCI in habitable areas and GFCI where water is present. Place receptacles so no point along usable wall lines is more than 6′ away; add a few USB-C outlets in dormers and knee-wall niches to reduce adapters.

Lighting Layers & Controls

Use three layers: ambient wafer LEDs (IC/AT), task sconces at the bed/desk, and linear LED accents in built-ins. Program scenes—Work/Wind-Down/Guest—on compatible dimmers or a simple keypad so the room flips function without rewiring.

Future-Proof Low-Voltage

Pull Cat6 to a discreet access panel for a dedicated Wi-Fi AP and run speaker wire to ceiling locations; route everything through a rear service chase behind millwork with magnet panels for maintenance. Label homeruns and photograph rough-in before insulation.
